Real-time. Connected land is efficient, adjacent complementary resources chain, terrain shapes the fight. Fortify, hold the high ground and the rivers, and starve their will.
Terrain (the background texture): hatched tiles are hills and dotted tiles are woods — both make a defender tougher, stacking with walls, so the best strongpoints combine high ground and fortification. Blue lines are rivers: attacking across one is penalised, so they form natural front lines worth holding. Terrain is geography — it stays when a tile changes hands; only walls are destroyed on capture.
